President's
Message - September 2010
Wow, it's
September 1st already ! . . . where did the Summer go ?
I personally have been
extremely busy all summer. My wife Alexis and I went on a four
week vacation in Europe in June - a two week cruise on the Mediterranean
Sea, and then a two week bus tour through Eastern Europe. In July,
I was elected, or rather appointed, "President"
of the Fishkill Historical Society by the FHS Board since
the President resigned rather suddenly effective July 1st. During
August, Alexis and I were both very busy planning upcoming activities
at the historic Van Wyck Homestead Museum in Fishkill.
When you have a half
an hour or so, log onto www.FishkillHistoricalSociety.org
and read the full text on the Main Screen, and then also click
on "Events" and "News". You
may want to attend the September 11th or 12th slide show presentation
on Dutch Colonial Settlers in the Hudson River Valley (Peekskill,
Fishkill, Spackenkill, Cobleskill, Plattekill, Catskill, etc.
<"Kill" in Dutch means "Stream"
or "Creek" > ), or you may be interested in
the Revolutionary War reenactors' encampment on Saturday, September
18th.
In May, at Frank Dispensa's
suggestion, Theresa Terilli established a "Meet-up"
Website for our Dutchess Regional Professional Photographer's
organization. Frank and your DRPP Board felt that it would be
a good way to "advertise" the existence of our DRPP
Group, to local photographers who happen to browse "Meet-up
Photographers" on the Internet. Hopefully it will attract
individuals who are interested in improving their photographic
expertise and they'll join our DRPP organization.
It's also a good site
to use to confirm members (and non-members) attendance at upcoming
DRPP dinner meetings, and to share comments. Please sign up as
a DRPP Member on the "Meet-up" Link via our DRPP
"Events" Screen. (I see that we currently have
15 of our 50 members signed up on this new Site - it takes 5 to
10 minutes to create your membership account; 15 to 20 minutes
if you have to search for a good photo of yourself . . . like
I had to !).
Thursday, September
9th, is the first dinner meeting of our Fall 2010 Season. Three
DRPP Members have been asked to make mini-presentations of 20-30
minutes each:
Frank Dispensa
will give a brief presentation on how to give your photos a 3
dimensional look by using off-camera flash techniques -
indoors and outside. Frank encourages members and guests to ask
any technical questions you may have.
Tom Doyle will
talk briefly about his vacation road trip to Maine and Nova Scotia
in July, and show a 15 minute Slide Show entitled "4,098
Miles in 28 Days" Tom will share some of his secrets
for getting the most out of your Landscape photos.
Steve Lynch
will talk about his 4 week European vacation in June - a two week
cruise on the Mediterranean Sea and then a 12 day bus tour through
Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, the Bavarian Alps
and ending in Germany.
Remember: Either e-mail
Theresa Terilli at TerilliT@optonline.net
to confirm your dinner reservation by Tuesday evening, Sept. 7th,
or log onto our "Meet-up" Website and confirm
your reservation by Tuesday.

DRPP Goals for the Year 2010
1.
Renew and maintain our Professional Photographers of America (PPA)
affiliation.
2. Maintain
or hopefully increase the number of active DRPP Members.
3. Maintain
or increase the number of DRPP Members who are PPA Members.
(We need to have at least ten members who are active members of
the PPA).
4. Organize
one or two half-day seminars or group field trips between May
2010 and October 2010.
5. Get more
members involved in DRPP's Print Competition Committee.
6. Have two
or three members participate in Membership Committee - greet members
and assist Treasurer in collecting dinner payments at each monthly
dinner meeting.
7. Continue
to distribute the New Member's "Welcome Kit" created
in 2008. Create a membership card that will provide local discounts
to photographic services.
8. Advertise
the existence of our DRPP organization - have upcoming meetings
published in local newspapers to attract potential new members.
9. Encourage
creativity and awareness of photographic trends (ie: Adobe Lightroom)
by openly sharing knowledge with fellow members.
10. Offer
informal critiques of member's Prints during the Social Hour prior
to each
monthly dinner meeting to encourage greater participation in Print
Competitions.
11. Encourage
members to join our Board of Directors and possibly fill vacancies
on the DRPP Board in April 2010. The President's Term of Office
ends on April 8th, 2010.
12. Utilize
our www.DRPP- NY.org website to promote our DRPP organization.
a. Display upcoming guest speakers' names and presentation topics.
b. Display print competition winning prints along with judges'
comments.
c. Post a listing of videotapes and books that are in our DRPP
Library.
d. Create an 'Ad' screen for selling / buying photography equipment.
13. Continue
to post Print Competition winners' names and Prints in local newspapers
(with a reference to our website) to hopefully attract new members
to join DRPP.
14. By April
2010 make a tri-fold brochure about DRPP to display at various
locations or to distribute at photographer's trade shows - ie:
local Bridal Shows. In short - we need to publicize our existence
to attract more members.
Revised as of January 1, 2010.
